Mourinho could take us to glory, Wise says

Chelsea legend Dennis Wise is thrilled that Jose Mourinho is likely to take over as the new manager of his former club.

"We haven't got one [new manager] yet. I don't know. But if it's Jose Mourinho [takes the job] it will be fantastic, because he knew what he has done before and won a trophy for us," said Wise, visiting Thailand for the second time since 1997, during a chat with reporters on Friday night.

Wise strongly believes Chelsea will win the English Premier League title next season while Manchester City and Manchester United will compete for second place.

He said if the Europa League winners get the manager they hope for, and club owner Roman Abramovich spends some money, Chelsea would take the title.

"I hope and keep my fingers crossed that he [Mourinho] does come," the second most successful captain of Chelsea said.

He also said Manchester United team under new manger David Moyes would be different without Sir Alex Ferguson in charge. Moyes would take a little bit of time to set up the team, so it would face a transition period, he said.

But he noted that sometimes players were the key factor to win titles, and not the manager.

United were starting to lose their players and talismanic Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand were getting older and Paul Scholes had also retired. "If they can replace those massive players with the right players, it will be interesting for them, and that could make the difference," he said.
