Eight children hurt by earthquake in southern Philippines

Manila - Eight children were injured and structures damaged by a magnitude-5.7 earthquake in the southern Philippines, officials said Sunday.



The children from two villages in Carmen town were hurt by falling debris and landslides, according to a Cotabato police officer.


The quake damaged several structures including a bridge and four school buildings in Kimadzil village.


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the epicenter was 10 kilometers west of Carmen in the North Cotabato province Saturday night.//DPA
