"Stickers" appear to be a key factor in achieving success in mobile social networking, and LINE was the first to jump on the bandwagon a year ago. It already has more than 10 million users in Thailand - a number that is growing.
However, now it has a new competitor in the "Sticker battle" - Facebook Messenger. It comes complete with a new set of stickers and an adjusted user interface and design, perfect for the latest Facebook versions.
Facebook, which already has more than 18 million users in Thailand, appears to have achieved some success with its new feature, though it is not available to everybody yet. Apart from offering "stickers", Facebook Messenger also allows users to make calls for free, and this along with video calls, games and other fun features, appears to be pulling people away from LINE.
As for Facebook Messenger "stickers", some like them and some don't.
Janin Ninwasdee said she has seen the Messenger "stickers" in her friends' mobile phones and thinks they are cute. Kasem Thianthongdee said he likes the new Facebook Messenger and believes it to be a lot smoother. He refused to say anything about the "stickers" though.
Sumanee Kai said she likes the Messenger because it allows people to chat with friends while they are on Facebook, though no comment on "stickers". However, Jintana Panyaarvudh, was clear: she thinks LINE "stickers" are a lot cuter.
Somchai Ngamvannagul, on the other hand, said he preferred "Ticker" - an application that allows you to "stick" messages rather than cartoon characters. This application takes its inspiration from the back of trucks - many of which sport funny phrases. "Ticker" seems to have become popular with many Facebook users.
Chirawat Sitarachiyanon said he would prefer it if "Ticker" allowed users to post their own message. Yet, many believe that "Ticker" might just be a passing trend.
"Sticker", on the other hand, seem to be "sticking" around and Facebook might end up being the winner in the "sticker battle" thanks to its free calls.
