Sailor arrested as pedophile suspect

A Thai sailor is alleged to have raped a mentally-challenged 9-year-old girl after luring her to his house with promises of sweets and a TV show. Anake Duangfu, 40, is suspected of two separate attacks on the youngster after he warned the girl not to tell anyone of the sordid encounters.  But he made the mistake of recording some activities on his mobile phone. A friend saw the recording and showed it to the girl's mother. Police said they had liaised with social workers to comfort the child. They were still making inquiries into the case and awaiting the outcome of medical tests. They suspect that the accused had attacked other youngsters, but the matter had been concealed as family members imagined that nobody would believe a sailor guilty of such behavior.  In fact, police added, they kept all information confidential in cases like this until they were in a position to make a formal arrest.
