Prime Minister Yongluck on Saturday called on people and the private sector to use less electricity in April when gas supplies from Myanmar are disrupted for routine maintenance.
Myanmar will close its Yanada gas field for annual maintenance from April 5 to 14, which would cut down a huge amount of natural gas supplied to Thailand for electricity production.
On her "Yingluck Government Meets the People" weekly programme on NBT, Ms Yingluck said the Ministry of Energy had come up with measures to ensure sufficient electricity supply for the general public during the period.
She assured people that there would be no blackout on April 5, the day that the consumption of electricity is expected to peak.
The prime minister said she had ordered all state offices to cut electricity use in order to help prevent energy crisis from occurring.
