KOH CHAUNG – The Royal Thai Navy and Marine Police intercepted two Vietnamese squid fishing boats which were trawling illegally in Thai waters, Thai News Agency reported Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, First Region Navy Commander Vice Admiral Rungsak Serisawat, in his capacity as director of the Thailand Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Center Region 1, led the mission to stop the two ships and arrested 21 men on board, including captains and crews.

The trawlers were intercepted while catching squid near Chon Buri's Koh Chuang in the upper Gulf of Thailand and the two vessels were taken to the Royal Thai Navy pier at Chon Sattahip district of eastern province of Chon Burit.

The Vietnamese detainees and the boats have been taken to Sattahip police station for further investigation.

They face charges of illegal entry into the kingdom, intrusion into an exclusive economic zone in Thai waters and violation of Thailand's Fisheries Act.
