Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda struggled to contain his delight after getting his first chance to impress with a practise match in his trial with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
After watching Atletico beat Real Zaragoza 2-0 at home in the league, the 24-year-old entered training on Monday, starting with a stretching session before joining reserve players in practise.
The Muangthong United striker then got to show his skills in a training match of two 25-minute halves against the Atletico B team.
Teerasil, whose 24 goals in the Thailand Premier League last season helped Muangthong clinch their third title in four years, played in the Atletico B team in the first half but rarely saw the ball as the focus was on individual skill rather than passing.
In the second period, Teerasil switched to play alongside Atletico reserve players and produced eye-catching performance by setting up Adrian Lopez to score. The Thai also picked out former Turkish international Emre Belozuglu, who sent his shot against the crossbar.
Heavily involved in play after the interval, the Thai even drew applause from coaching staff for his performance in possession.
"It's the first time I have played here. It's a bit tough as the game is played at a quicker pace than I'm used to. To be honest, I didn't get a chance to play at all in the first half as the players were focusing on showing their individual skills. They rarely passed me the ball.
"When I joined the Atletico reserves things got much better as we played more like a team, with a short-passing game. It suited with my style. Despite that though, I was still not happy with my form. There's still a lot to improve.
"Nevertheless, I am very happy at getting the chance to play with the Atletico team," said Teerasil, whose trial was arranged as part of a collaboration between the two clubs.
