We have seen decapitations, disembowelled corpses, violent rapes, ghouls, walking dead and pints of blood on our TV screens. Now Channel 3 claim Nua Mek 2 was axed because scenes were deemed too violent.
Fact, fiction or fantasy?
What do you think?
FANTIA
Placebo, not panacea
Re: Songkran Grachangnetara's article, ''The case for a new, untainted constitution'' (BP, Jan 8) _ constitutions don't guarantee clean politics.
I wonder which planet Songkran Grachangnetara descended from if he thinks that by rewriting the constitution peace and ''true reconciliation'' will suddenly break out all over the land.
For the last 65 years, I've personally seen many new constitutions born and old ones ripped up.
We the people didn't have a clue as to what the fuss was all about. The policeman in my soi still demanded a bribe under every constitution, which neither he nor I had read.
Laws may matter, but the implementation of those laws matters much more. India has wonderful laws against rape. I wonder, if they elevated these laws and enshrined them in the constitution, would women suddenly start to feel safe?
You can't legislate honesty. The current constitution with its supposed independent agencies is not going to stop any politician from finding a new route around it to carry on ripping the country off. The previous constitution didn't either.
The drafters of the current constitution cleverly made sure some old crimes committed under the previous one wouldn't escape prosecution under the new one.
Those affected are now crying foul. Anyway, this technical detail has nothing to do with us, the people.
Those who are so passionate about true democracy should bother less with votes and referendums that embolden governments to screw the people under the guise of that democracy.
They should be more concerned about a free press and what's shown or not shown on their TV screens.
Never mind Thailand. Even the Chinese government with a million man army quakes in its boots when the media exposes a truth they have been trying hard to suppress.
The one who loses an election gracefully is a true democrat. The one who wins an election may or may not be a democrat. Only time will tell. If he's still in power 10 years later, there's a high probability that he is not one.

Same old African story
About your story on Africans here using our women/girls as drug mules _ yes, this has been known for a long time.
The same Africans are also ''pimping'' our children into prostitution everywhere.
By my guess, 50% of these Africans are here illegally but no one does anything.
WHY?
Does a certain group here benefit from their illegal activities?
Isn't that the norm? Nothing will be done, so why write about this issue?
SOEKDEW
Priorities crooked in South
Although the ''talks'' about the deep South are a good step, we cannot rely on them and just wait and see. So many soldiers and civilians are killed everyday.
Little money is spent on the soldiers and on military technology/operations in the South. Much of the military budget was instead spent on a dubious submarine deal.

Malaysia respects elderly
It is not only the BTS whose discount for the elderly applies only to local people. The State Railway of Thailand does the same.
So when I go anywhere in Malaysia, I buy a ticket to the border and from there a ticket from Malaysian railways as they grant me a huge discount. It seems they have more respect for the elderly and a better business concept.
