Photographers Chamaiporn Wadkien and Charinthorn Rachurutchata redefine our concept of ideal beauty through their collection of photos, while hoping to reveal the subtlety of contemporary life and purity hidden in the flaws of reality. Their exhibition, "BACC Photo Picture Perfect: A Photography Series Exhibition Part I: 3 Women", will be held at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (3-4/F, 939 Rama I Road, 02-214-6630-8, www.bacc.or.th) from Nov 25 until Jan 6.

WHY IS PHOTOGRAPHY SUITED TO DISCOURSE THE CONCEPT OF IDEAL BEAUTY?

Chamaiporn Wadkien: Pictures leave an impression on people and attract a lot of interest, such as in magazines. They are also able to convey a message right away unlike text, which requires more time to comprehend.

Charinthorn Rachurutchata: Photography is a medium that can be accessed by more people than words. Also the ability to retouch photographs in Photoshop reflects our current society very well.

WHAT ARE THE INSPIRATIONS BEHIND YOUR EXHIBITION?

CW: The idea that women want perfection in every way as a goal in life.

CR: My friends, society at large and soap operas that tend to subtly reflect the cultural zeitgeist of the time.

ARE BEAUTY AND PURITY HIDDEN IN THE FLAWS OF REALITY?

CW: Though the exhibition is called Picture Perfect, nothing really is. Perfection is subjective, which I want to reflect in my work.

CR: I approached the exhibition through the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi

[perfection in imperfection]. There are always imperfections in my work that I notice, but overall I am happy with it.

WHAT CAN THE AUDIENCE EXPECT FROM THE EXHIBITION?

CW: I want audience members to think for themselves and not necessarily from my point of view, since there is no right or wrong answer in art.

CR: The theme and works reflect national problems of utmost importance such as poverty, which I hope will resonate with the audience. Once the exhibition is open, the artists no longer hold the sole interpretation of it.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE AS PHOTOGRAPHERS?

CW: The main challenge for me occurs during the planning process of how to approach the theme and composition.

CR: Sometime the final works do not adequately reflect my original idea, which can be frustrating.
