More time for 3G fee offers

The three winners of bandwidth slots on the 2.1-gigahertz spectrum have postponed submission of their plans for offering low-cost third-generation cellular service, previously scheduled for yesterday.

Settapong Malisuwan, chairman of the telecom committee of the National Broadcasting and Tele-communications Commission, said the three companies needed more time to finalise the plans.

The committee will convene soon to determine a new deadline for them, he said.

The three winners of the October 16 auction for 2.1GHz bandwidth were Advanced Wireless Network of Advanced Info Service, DTAC Network of Total Access Communication, as well as Real Future of True Corp.

The NBTC's telecom committee wants the three telecom providers to draw up plans to offer low-cost voice and data 3G services on a temporary basis, pending an official permanent maximum tariff to be imposed later.
