Hanoi - Thailand's national energy firm PTT is planning to build a US$28.7 billion oil refinery in central Vietnam with a capacity of 660,000 barrels per day, The Business Times said.
The news agency reported that PTT has reported its pre-feasibility study of the Nhon Hoi refinery to the Binh Dinh central provincial government. Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted the management board of the economic zone where the plant would be located as saying that.
Construction may begin in 2016 and the plant is expected to start operating in 2019 pending approval by the Vietnamese government, the newspaper said.
Vietnam has so far only one oil refinery, the 135,000 barrels per day Dung Quat plant, which is expected to nearly double its capacity to 240,000 bpd.
