Kevin Balot was crowned Miss International Queen 2012 at Tiffany's Show Pattaya, where the 20-year-old nursing graduate competed with 21 other transvestites from around the globe. Jessika Simoes of Brazil was named first runner-up and Thailand's Panvilas Mongkol was second runner-up, according to pageant organisers Tiffany Show and Piton Communications.
Along with the Miss International Queen crown from World Gems Collection, Balot received US $10,000 and a bevy of prizes from sponsors such as Pratunam Polyclinic, Make Up Store, Woodland Hotel and Resort, Perfect slim and Asset Insurance. In return, the new queen will act as goodwill ambassador to enlighten people and governments toward the goal of freedom and equality for transvestites, gays, lesbians, transgender and other victims of discrimination.
As a surprise during the pageant, Balot's parents and sister flew in from Manila to watch him compete and take top honors. Three other Filipinos competed in the pageant; Balot is the first from his country to win the crown.
Part of the proceedings generated by the pageant will be donated to His Majesty The King's Chai Pattana Foundation.
