Operating the largest convenience store chain, CP All each year spends huge amounts on electricity. With more than 7,000 7-Eleven outlets open 24 hours, this chain is emitting a huge amount of carbon as well.

That must be tackled, the company said.

Last week, the company launched a campaign to change more than 700,000 light bulbs at all branches, from fluorescent to LED. Under the "7 Goes Green" campaign, more than Bt500 million will be invested on this project, targeting to reduce CO2 emissions by 58 tonnes per annum. This followed a trial project, launched in 2007.

"We found that LED light bulbs, also used in refrigerators, help save energy by more than 30 per cent," said Piyawat Titasattavorakul, managing director of CP All. "We will continue to launch other initiatives under the "7 Goes Green" campaign".
