Thai shares continued with the upward trend on Wednesday, getting a boost from positive sentiment in the US and better trade data of China.
The Stock Exchange of Thailand index ended the morning session with a gain of 14.15 points or 0.88 per cent to 1,615.30 points - the highest since 1994.
Regional bourses today were boosted by last night's spike in Dow Jones Industrial Average. The index experienced the first close above 15,000, on optimism over global central bank stimulus and better-than- estimated corporate earnings.
China's export growth unexpectedly accelerated in April even as shipments to the US and Europe fell. Chinese shipments rose 14.7 per cent, the General Administration of Customs said today in Beijing, compared with the 9.2 per cent median forecast of analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News and 10 per cent growth in March. Imports advanced 16.8 per cent last month, while the trade surplus of $18.2 billion was higher than projected.
