A meeting of directors of Thai trade offices in overseas markets, chaired by Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom, yesterday acknowledged that exports would increase by only 5 per cent this year, down from the previous target of 8-9 per cent.
Chamaiporn Chuecharoen, the commercial counsellor for Thailand in Kunming, China, said target for export growth to China is cut to only 6 per cent, down from 8 per cent. Export to the US had been maintained at 5 per cent as the US economy had started to recover.
Chulit Sathavorn, director of the Thai Office of International Trade in London, said trade with the UK rose by 4.4 per cent in the first quarter thanks to an increasing demand for Thai products, especially consumer goods and foods. The office believes that export from Thailand to the UK will increase by 0-2 per cent for the full period of this year.
