The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) have been unable to confirm whether the national team will play a friendly against China next month due to uncertainty over the future of coach Winfried Schaefer.
China have lined up Thailand for a warmup game on June 15, ahead of July's East Asia Cup in South Korea. The Thai FA, though, have yet to accept the offer.
"Khun Worawi [Makudi, Thai FA president] has yet to set a date for the board meeting. So, we can't do anything because the future of coach Winfried Schaefer will be one of the issues on the agenda at that meeting.
"Also, we have not yet appointed a new manager, so we need to sort out those things first, before we begin preparing our team," said Thai FA general secretary Ongart Kohsinkha.
It anyhow seems highly unlikely that the friendly in question will take place, as the fixture is scheduled for the same day as the FAT presidential election. - The Nation
