BANGKOK, 13 May 2013 – A Suan Dusit poll finds that a majority of people disagree with the closing down of small schools and urge the government to accelerate education development.
The poll, conducted with 1,292 parents nationwide, shows that the parents are concerned most about expenses related to their childrenâs education, including tuition, clothes and stationery. The parents want to tell teachers and schools to do their utmost in educating children with a focus on morality and ethics.
The parents also want the government and the Ministry of Education to urgently develop Thai education to be effective and meet standards, the poll finds. Education expenses such as tuition should be controlled, the parents say.
Regarding the Ministry of Educationâs plan to dissolve more than 17,000 small schools across the country, most of the parents object to the idea, saying teachers, students and parents will be all affected.
