Ranong has discontinued the construction of embankment along Kraburi River, following a petition from Myanmar.
Myanmar said the embankment leads to a change in the current direction, which may flood villages on its side and alter the border line.
Ranong Governor Cherdsak Jampates said that the construction is delayed to nurture the positive relationship between the two countries. He said that joint discussion could be held, to explain the necessity of the project to the Myanmar side as well as to fine-tune necessary modification.
Thai villages located along the river have been suffering from serious corrosion in the past years. Embankments are planned in 8 points, with combined length of 2km.
