Bank of Thailand governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul insisted that the Monetary Policy Committee's decision was not influenced by political pressure.

To a TV programme on Channel 3, he said that the MPC took into account all factors in reviewing the policy rate. For example, the members discussed the negative impacts of a rate cut on savers, and the negative impacts on exporters if the rate is maintained.

"The policy rate could be a tool (in taming the baht appreciation), but it could not be cut largely due to negative impacts. Among countries which still show growth, Thailand's rate is the lowest," he said.

However, he insisted that all parties are working together without any conflicts.

"We may differ on the technical fronts, but we do our job. I never thought about resigning as there are the reasons to justify what I'm doing. I will continue on this path," he said.
