BANGKOK, 23 May 2013 (NNT) â€" Bangkok City Council Member Wirat Minchaiyanan is calling on City Hall to check on hundreds of its new CCTV cameras installed in Minburi district, which are not functional at the moment.

Mr. Wirat led the press to a spot in front of a convenience store located in an area marked as crime-prone, and pointed out that several cameras installed in the vicinity were not working. He also indicated that only 306 cameras have been installed at 57 spots in Minburi district, out of the 910 that are supposed to be set up at 208 spots. Reporters say the fact that most of the cameras are not working has caused worry among vendors and locals in the area, as perpetrators of crimes in the area have yet to be arrested. The locals also call on City Hall to quickly tackle the non-functional camera issue.
