Police had issued 12,044 tickets in the first four months of this year to drivers who failed to follow traffic signals and were caught by the Red Light Camera System.

Pol Maj Gen Piya Tawichai, chief of the Police Traffic Division, said that the Red Light Camera System has been repaired and activated in 30 major intersections across Bangkok.

The intersections include Uruphong, Phya Thai, Lam Salee, Praves, NIDA, Ratchada-Rama IV, Ratchaprasong, Withaya-Phloenchit, and Asoke-Sukhumvit.

The official also said that more technology will be deployed to assist the traffic monitoring. The police and the Expressway Authority are also working out the plan to procure cameras, to monitor speed. The Lane Change Management System will also be deployed soon, to monitor lane changing in forbidden areas.

"Through the technology, we hope to control violation and accidents, to reduce damage," he said.
