Seoul - North Korea on Monday marked the 101st birthday of state founder Kim Il Sung with toned-down celebrations as world leaders warned the reclusive state against a test missile launch.
Leader Kim Jong Un led senior generals and officials in a visit to a mausoleum where the embalmed corpses of his grandfather Kim Il Sung and his father Kim Jong Il lie at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang, the North's official Korean Central News Agency reported.
It was the young leader's first public appearance since April 1,South Korean media reports said.
There had been widespread speculation that the North would mark the anniversary with the test launch of an intermediate-range missile.
But no such show of military might took place and even an expectedmilitary parade was not held, according military officials in Seoul.
Instead, cultural events such as musical shows and group dancing as well as floral offerings marked the so-called Day of the Sun inNorth Korea./DPA
