BANGKOK, 16 April 2013 – The weather bureau has warned southern residents to brace for more heavy rains during the next few days.

The Meteorological Department said a low pressure cell covering the Andaman Sea coupled with westerly winds prevailing over the South created heavy rains in most parts of the region. Provinces which will be severely affected by the storms include Songkla, Chumphon and Surat Thani.

All shipping should proceed with caution today and tomorrow, as strong winds are set to generate waves up to 3-meter high.

In the Central Plains, tropical storms are expected in some provinces such as Lopburi, Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi. Late yesterday, storms caused blackouts, road accidents and uprooted trees in many districts of Ayutthaya.
