I am in full agreement with Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha in demanding a fast, thorough, transparent probe into the 2010 clashes between the government forces and red shirts, for the general says, "Soldiers and their families are also entitled to justice." For example, who murdered Seh Daeng, or the nurse at Wat Pratumwan? Identify and bring their murderers to justice, especially those who murdered the nurse, who was only helping the wounded.
But, general, are those whom we know your brother officers killed not also entitled to an equal measure of justice? For example, the 32 killed through use of excessive force at Krue Se mosque, the 73 suffocated while bound hand and foot at Tak Bai, or the four murdered in cold blood at Nong Chik?
Shouldn't your sense of integrity and professionalism call out for justice for them also? As the red shirts are fond of saying (but not doing): "No double standards!"
At the very least, general, you should speak out to repeal the emergency decree, which pre-authorises any action by the authorities if done under orders, including killing, and which the UN Special Rapporteur has said could be used to justify murder most foul, because it absolves the authorities of accountability and thus removes the restraint to kill.
