The genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has delighted and inspired for centuries, while the more recent compositions of Dmitri Shostakovich have also thrilled audiences.
The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) will bring the two together at Mahidol University's College of Music on March 8 at 7pm and March 9 at 4pm.
Chief conductor Gudni Emilsson will join the Schiavo-Marchegiani piano duo to perform Mozart's Concerto For Two Pianos In E-Flat Major and Overture Der Schauspieldirektor in the first half of the "Mozart and Shostakovich" concert. The second half is devoted Shostakovich's mighty Symphony No.11.
The Italian piano duo, Sergio Marchegiani and Marco Schiavo, are known for their musical personality, expressiveness and naturalness, beauty of sound, intensity and energy.
Since 2006 they have played all over the world performing at prestigious venues and festivals, including Goldener Saal at Musikverein and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Carnegie Hall in New York, and Berlin Philharmonie, Smetana and Dvorak Halls in Prague.
At the moment they teach in Matera and Alessandria Conservatories and are in frequent demand for masterclasses and piano competition jury. Tickets cost 300 and 500 baht (100 baht for students).
