A group of volunteers with good hearts led by former Miss Universe Apasra Hongsakula, along with family and friends, recently travelled to Nakhon Ratchasima to officially gift a new kindergarten building named "Kassapa" to Ban Kud Ngor school in Wangsai, Pak Chong district.
The single-storey white and blue "Kassapa" building was designed by ML Roonguna Kitiyakara, Apasra's son who also supervised the overall construction, which took more than six months to complete.
"My son had a chance to visit this school and saw that the small building for kindergarten children was in bad shape," said Apasra, chairperson of fundraising for the Ban Kud Ngor school project.
"He consulted me and we came up with this school building project, which received valuable advice and warm support from Khunying Suchitra Chirathivat Mongkolkiti, Khun Mookda Chirathivat Uahwatanasakul, Khun Ratana Chirathivat Norpanlob, Khun Chunsuda Nilgianskul and Khun Patchrin Poonsirivong, who helped with the fundraising campaign," she said. "In the end, we were able to raise a total of 800,000 baht, enough to construct a new building with two classrooms for the school."
"I believe that education is a necessary foundation for children to help them grow up to be good, responsible citizens _ able to take care of themselves and families," added ML Roonguna.

"When I first saw the old and small building, it was in a very bad condition. At the time, I had a feeling it could collapse any minute and the kids might be hurt if they were still learning and playing under its roof.
"With the bad condition of the building, the school already had a plan to move kindergarten classes to other schools in the vicinity," he said. "But then it would be difficult for the parents to send their children to other schools as the distance to each school is quite far from where they live."
According to ML Roonguna, the new "Kassapa" building was constructed to meet the requirements set by the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment.
"I volunteered to handle the design and supervise the construction myself to save costs _ starting from purchasing construction materials, building it ourselves as well as doing the landscaping," he added.
"We also looked into providing the school with other necessities. Right now we have raised additional funds to buy other necessary learning equipment."
Chookiet Ngamtin, former headmaster of Ban Kud Ngor school, said: "The Ban Kud Ngor community feels very grateful to have this new school building, which will provide a good learning atmosphere for the children _ raising the quality of life at school for them.
"The children and their parents are very happy and so are the teachers. Now we'll see the kids' smiles when they go to their new classroom."
