The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday resolved 4:1 to endorse the victory of Democrat Party gubernatorial candidate Sukhumbhand Paribatra in the March 3 election.
The endorsement was made despite ongoing investigations into complaints of irregularities.
The law requires the EC to endorse the election result within 30 days of the vote. This only gives the agency until April 2, and the investigations are not likely to be ready in time.
The Bangkok EC has agreed to investigate at least four complaints of electoral irregularities. Should the EC find evidence of electoral fraud and have to order a new election or a disqualification, it will have to hand the case over to the Central Appeals Court. - The Nation
