It may seem an unusual combination, but Paradise Park is offering both acrobatics and blessings for its Chinese New Year celebrations, starting today.
A statue of Guan, a god of loyalty and prosperity in China.
The "Paradise Park the Great Chinese New Year: Enhancing Fortune with Guan (God of Loyalty)", which runs until Monday, is a chance to pay respect to Guan, one of the most respected gods for Chinese people around the world. Not only the god of loyalty, on the commercial side he is also one of the symbols of prosperity.
The statue has been respectfully invited from China to go on show at the shopping complex for the first time. It has been through a sacred ceremony before arriving at the fair.
Ajarn Wiroj Tangwanich, a guru of Chinese history and culture, will provide tips on how to pay respect to the god in the correct fashion today at 3pm.
For a visual treat, an acrobatics show by the Phu Yang troupe from Hunan in China is set to thrill audiences for five days. The show, originally performed in the Ching era, has more than 150 years of history and has won more than 200 awards around the world.
The show line-up includes The Emerald Tiger Defeating Dragon Pole, which features an acrobatic pyramid of performers trying to reach the top of the pole, Slender and Smooth, which shows performers seemingly defying gravity, and Lady and the Dragon Glass, which sees beautiful performers dancing with music and a dragon.
The acrobatic show runs daily at 6pm, plus a 3pm matinee on weekends, at the Royal Park Plaza, 1st floor. Free admission.
