iSnap: a perfect fit for the new generation

The Nation officially launched its "iSnap" application last week at the Digital Gateway mall in downtown Bangkok. This iSnap application is a new feature embedded in the Nation News application that is available in both iOS and Android platforms, and as of now, there have been more than 230,000 downloads.

The iSnap technology helps take newspapers beyond the realm of just the printed word and still photographs, and the Nation Group's three dailies - Kom Chad Luek, The Nation and Krungthep Thurakij - have chosen to jump on the bandwagon.

Here is some feedback from readers who have tried the application.

Weera Chearanaipanit (@oweera), KBank's senior SME Partner Development specialist, who loves reading the Data Biz column in Krungthep Turakij, says: "Just holding the mobile phone over the column and snapping it gives me so much more information. It is a great application."

Pawoot Pongvitayapanu (@pawoot), founder and managing director of Tarad.com, said he thinks this application will help transform the newspaper industry in Thailand. "The outstanding feature is that it will bridge the gap between print and web media via mobile devices. So, marketers and marketing communications people will have to rethink and adjust the way they present their marketing message. On the other hand, audiences will also change the manner in which they consume information. The next interesting step would be for Nation News to link its iSnap application to Facebook in order to get the readers' profile. It can also be extended to e-commerce," Pawoot said.

Similarly, Siwat Chawareewong (@siwat), CEO at mInteraction, said the iSnap application was a lot easier to use than QR Code and this easy-to-use feature will attract a lot of users, which will offer huge marketing opportunities. He added that marketers could use this application to link up with social media like Facebook, Twitter and other online channels.

"I advise everybody to try it," Siwat said.

Apisit Supakitcharoen (@mrapisit), one of the first few people to try the iSnap application, says it is cool, fun and interesting. "Unfortunately, the only problem with this application is that it takes a long time to update - something that might drive users away especially since everybody in this digital era like instant results. However, it is so cool!" Apisit said.

Krittayawee Sumali (@krittayawee), MBK Public Co Ltd's senior media relations officer, said she finds iSnap exciting because it brings simple news articles to life.

"It is not just plain news... I think this fits into the new generation lifestyle," she said.
