Residents living along the upper sois of Bangkok's Sukhumvit road will have noticed what could be described as guerilla marketing of several condominium buildings in the area recently. Every weekend, and sometimes on weekdays too, young men, often clad in attention-attracting attire, will stand on the road side wagging flags advertising condominiums such as H Sukhumvit, Via Botani and The Crest, amongst others.
Deperate times call for desperate measures, someone once said, and this certainly fits the bill. Has the supply of condominiums in the upper sois of Sukhumvit really reached such levels that developers feel obliged to use such rather primitive marketing measures? Surely, they don't expect people making a run to Tops Supermarket for a pint of milk to suddenly decide to buy an apartment because some underage person is wagging a flag?
Now for someone who regularly deals with developers and in particular developers' PR and marketing departments, this trend is even more boggling to the mind. The amount of rigorous fact checking, overseeing and management to which content out of these departments is oftentimes subjected, makes the thought of developers leaving everything to a boy with a flag on the roadside seem ludicrous.
Perhaps I'm just not versed in the newest marketing trends.
