Grenade tossed onto soldiers exercising in Yala, resulting in 8 injuries

YALA, 20 February 2013 (NNT) â€" Assailants tossed a grenade onto soldiers exercising at a forward military base in Yala province, resulting in 8 [latest figure] injuries.

The soldiers under Yala Task Force 11 were having their evening exercise on a football field inside a temple where the forward base was situated, when a grenade was lobbed over the temple fence and onto the field.

Closed-circuit television camera footage showed 2 assailants on a motorcycle approached the temple fence, then stopped the motorcycle. The passenger, dressed as a Muslim woman, then ran from the motorcycle and threw the grenade over the fence. The individual then got onto the vehicle again and the motorcycle sped away from the scene.

After the incident, Yala Police ordered closure of traffic on some roads and increased the intensity of checks conducted at vehicle checkpoints throughout downtown Yala.
