Former defense perm secs assets sequestered

BANGKOK, 27 February 2013 (NNT) â€" The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has decided to freeze the assets of Former Defense Permanent-Secretary Sathian Permthong-in, declaring him unusually wealthy.

According to NACC member Vicha Mahakhun, the NACC board has agreed to freeze General Satian’s assets worth 65 million baht after finding him unusually wealthy. The NACC has found that there over 199 million baht was transferred into his and his wife’s bank accounts during 2010-2011. The agency is giving the Gthe eneral 30 days to explain where the assets came from.

Furthermore, the NACC has evidence that shows Mr Satian made a false assets declaration while he was working at Public Warehouse Organization during 2007-2008. The NACC has already forwarded the case to the Court for a final judgement. If the court rules that he is guilty, he will be barred from holding any government position for 5 years.
