Etihad Airways recently introduced a new business lounge at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

The new lounge, located in Terminal 2, aims to meet the surging passenger numbers on Etihad Airways' flights into and out of Paris. With a selection of elegant dining options, it offers the same levels of style and comfort guests enjoy in Etihad Airways' award-winning Diamond First and Pearl Business class cabins.

New hub to open at Doha

The long-awaited new Doha International Airport is set to open on April 1 after repeated setbacks. National carrier Qatar Airways will gradually transfer activities to the new hub during the second half of the year, the airline has announced. The new facility has been built next to the old airport. Initial capacity has been pencilled in as 28 million passengers annually. This is set to go up to 50 million by 2015. - DPA

A whale of a time

Denmark's new Natural History Museum is set to be housed in a spectacular new building in the Botanical Gardens in the centre of the capital Copenhagen. The foundation stone will laid in 2015 for a bold, transparent structure said to have been inspired by the Paris Louvre and which will also feature underground displays. The chief feature will be the skeleton of a blue whale measuring 30 metres in length. It will be installed in the main hall and be visible from outside the building, completion of which is scheduled for 2017. - DPA

Myanmar heads travel destination list

Wanderlust, a UK travel magazine, has recognised Myanmar as the top travel destination for the Wanderlust Travel Awards 2013. According to the announcement released on February 1, Myanmar took the top spot with 96.98 per cent of the vote this year. Myanmar is followed by Peru, New Zealand, Bhutan, Jordan, Namibia, Chile, Iceland, Vietnam, Botswana, and Chile. Hoi An, Vietnam was chosen as the top ten city while Bagan, Myanmar stood in the fourth place. - Eleven Media.

Airbus rethinks battery technology

Airbus is going for "Plan B" and returning to nickel cadmium technology for A350 XWB batteries. The leading aircraft manufacturer has decided to revert to the proven and mastered nickel cadmium main batteries for its A350 XWB programme at Entry into Service (EIS). Airbus considers this to be the most appropriate way forward in the interest of programme execution and A350 XWB reliability. The A350 XWB model had been developed with lithium ion (Li-ion) main battery. Airbus changes its mind to nickel cadmium following Boeing 787's situation over its Li-ion battery.

Perth launches new domestic terminal

Perth Airport has confirmed that the new $120 million Domestic Terminal (Terminal 2) will open on Saturday, 2 March 2013, less than 18 months from the time construction commenced in September 2011. Located next to International Terminal (Terminal 1), the new terminal will immediately improve the travel experience for people in regional Western Australia, as they will now be able to connect through to international services in one convenient location.
