Amsterdam's Biggles Big Band will be back to serenade Thai fans with hits from the golden era of big band jazz and the songs of Frank Sinatra during the Thailand Tour 2013, from Feb 21 to March 3.
Biggles Big Band, the world-class jazz band from the Netherlands, will be touring Thailand from Feb 21 to March 3.
Due to the great success of their tours in 2009 and 2010, the Dutch group has been invited back again with performances all around the Kingdom, including Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Bangkok and Hua Hin.
Biggles Big Band, conducted by Adrie Braat, is a 20-piece orchestra that plays music from the great swing era, recreating the magical sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Tommy Dorsey.
For almost 30 years, the band has performed every Monday night at the Casablanca Cafe, located right in the heart of Amsterdam. There its reputation has become legendary.
The ensemble consists of five trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, guitar, piano, acoustic bass, drums and a male vocalist. The repertoire is suitable for listening as well as dancing, with tunes such as Tuxedo Junction, In The Mood, Baby Elephant Walk, and many more famous jazz classics.
The band's vocalist Arnold Auee brings Frank Sinatra back to life with songs like Fly Me To The Moon, I've Got You Under My Skin and The Lady is a Tramp.
A few young enthusiastic big band devotees founded the Amsterdam-based group in 1985. Started as their dream band performing their favourite music, the musicians thought of a name for the orchestra that would reflect their motto "A boy's dream comes to life".
This is how they ended up with the name Biggles, the main character in the adventure books for young boys written by Captain W.E. Johns.
