Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 53.91 points, or 0.39 per cent, to close at 14,035.67, within 1 per cent of its all-time closing high in October 2007.
SP 500 added 11.15 points, or 0.73 per cent at 1,530.94. Most key SP sectors ended higher, led by consumer staples and energy.
Nasdaq rose 21.56 points, or 0.68 per cent at 3,213.59,best finish since November 2000.
