Canadian band promises a blast from the past

Canadian pop punk band Sum 41 promises to take the audience on a nostalgic ride down memory lane and back to their school years during a concert-cum-party next week at Centerpoint Studio in Soi Lasalle, Sukhumvit 105.

Sum 41 will give a concert at Centerpoint Studio in Soi Lasalle on March 6, at 6.15pm.

Scheduled for March 6 and dubbed "Back to School Party with Sum 41", it will be the band's maiden performance in Bangkok. The rock quartet from Ontario comprises Deryck Whibley (vocals, rhythm guitar), Tom Thacker (lead guitar), Jason Cone McCaslin (bass guitar), and Steve Jocz (drums).

Sum 41's career is full of highlights that extend well beyond the traditional punk band. They have collaborated with Iggy Pop, Ludacris, Tommy Lee, Rob Haldford, and Tenacious D, and were invited to join heavy metal legends Motley Crue on their reunion tour.

Since their inception in 1996, Sum 41 has been relentless, unapologetic, and unconcerned with musical boundaries. Their music style has been described as an "eclectic meld of raucous punk rock, thunderous heavy metal and straightforward rock". Their latest album, Screaming Bloody Murder, feeds off this past and expands on it.

Labelled one of the world's best bands, Sum 41 has released five albums since 2001. Counted among their hits are In Too Deep, Fat Lip, Still Waiting, The Hell Song, Pieces, With Me and Make No Difference.

For the concert, fans are encouraged to come attired as students, teachers, jocks, nerds or cheerleaders _ whatever best reminds them of their happy school years.

The concert will start with an opening act by Thai rock bands such as Sweet Mullet, The Yers, and Brandnew Sunset at 6.15pm.

Tickets cost 1,500 baht and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major booths.
