Bangkok Hospital Pattaya's plans to become a national health leader took another step closer to realization with the posting of a record 3.2 billion baht in revenues last year, up 14 percent over a year earlier. Operating profits amounted to 17 percent and patient growth was up 7 percent.
Dr Pichit Gungvolkij, hospital spokesman and vice-president, said that apart from Thai residents the main growth had been amongst European and Russians in the resort. Russians are now overtaking the British and the Germans as the most numerous foreign group.
BHP projects revenues of 3.6 billion baht this year. Dr Pichit calls that a conservative growth target because the hospital plans to maintain its medical service fees at current levels whilst improving quality. He says they will purchase 13 artificial kidney machines and computer software that detects life-signals in 20 intensive and coronary care rooms, and double the number of infant care units.
Furthermore, the hospital plans upgrades in anticipation of the onset of the ASEAN Economic Community when it expects patients from the nine other countries, notably from Indonesia. At that point, 2015, the hospital targets revenues of 5 billion baht annually. Treatment for heart, bone, memory and fertility-related illness and diseases are areas likely to show the strongest increase in demand.
