The 2013 Ban Chiang World Heritage Fair runs from tomorrow to Sunday at the Ban Chiang National Museum in Nong Han district, Udon Thani.

Activities include a ritual to give offerings to Ban Chiang forefathers, parades to celebrate the 85th birthday of His Majesty the King and promote the World Heritage Triangle, and light and sound shows depicting the history of Thai Phuan people in Ban Chiang. Visitors can also shop for local products and souvenirs and watch an exhibition on the Thai Phuan way of life, and watch demonstrations of Ban Chiang pottery making and painting, plus making iron tools in the old style.
Udon Thani boasts natural, art, cultural, lifestyle, religious and historical tourist attractions. Ban Chiang archaeological site is the upper Northeast's only Unesco World Heritage site and also a popular attraction for Thai and foreign tourists to experience the Thai Phuan culture and way of life. It has a 5,000-year history, with many pieces of pottery, iron and bronze artefacts.
Atchaphan Booncharoen, director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand's Udon Thani office, said the event focuses on tourism connections with World Heritage sites in neighbouring countries via the World Heritage Triangle project and promotes local tourism and related knowledge.

Chinese New Year in Ayutthaya
The 7th Auspicious Ayutthaya Old Capital and Chinese New Year Festival will take place from Monday to Feb 16 in front of the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Municipality's office and along Naresuan Road along the way to the stupa of Chao Ai Chao Yi in downtown Ayutthaya.
Visitors can pay respects to sacred statues from 108 Chinese shrines in the province's 16 districts under one roof at the municipal office, watch cultural performances from China, dragon dances and magic shows.
Also, there will be a concert by luk thung bands from the TV show Chingcha Sawan and by local band Ai Nam, Grammy Junior artists and a Chinese orchestra from Samut Songkhram. You can enjoy eating delicious local food at a retro Chinese-style market and shopping for inexpensive products and good herbal medicines. Fortune-telling and several other activities also await. Pramote Sapyen, director of the TAT's Ayutthaya office, says the province is one of many areas hosting Chinese New Year celebrations and the TAT will bring shows from China's Inner Mongolia and Guangxi autonomous regions to the festival.

Mini-marathon in Suphan Buri
Chao Phaya Yommarat Hospital in Suphan Buri province is holding the first Chao Phaya Yommarat Charity Walk and Mini-marathon on Feb 17 to celebrate the 87th anniversary of its establishment. The aim is to encourage youths and adults to exercise and promote tourist attractions.
The competition will be divided into two categories: the 10.5km mini-marathon and the 3km walk rally for health. All proceeds will be used to procure medical equipment.
Interested people can register on either Feb 16 or Feb 17. The first day of registration will begin at 10am in front of the gymnasium of Kannasut Suksalai School. This will be followed by a health lecture by Dr Surasak Thiraphatphan and Dr Aranya Kallayanapojpon, medical check-ups, body mass evaluations, health exhibitions and ramwong dancing for health. On Feb 17, registration will start at 4am in front of the gymnasium where all will then get ready for the races.
