BANGKOK, 26 February 2013 – Officials from the the Ministry of Public Health searched 2 well-known beauty clinics in Bangkok's Siam Square area, and found one of the clinics emoloying unqualified staff to dispense medication and the other exaggerating claims in its advertisement.

Officials from the Department of Health Service Support and the Consumer Protection Police Division inspected Nitiphon Clinic in Siam Square after receiving consumer complaints on the clinic not using doctors to dispense medication. The officials posed as customers and acquired medicines from two clinic staff, then identified themselves and arrested the two staff and a doctor who was in the clinic. The trio were charged with dispensing medication without doctor supervision.

The group also inspected a nearby beauty clinic under the Wutthisak Clinic chain, and found exaggerated claims on the clinic's posters. The clinic was subjected to 20,000 baht fine for the offense. It would further be fined 10,000 each day if no improvements are made to the offending posters.

Officials asserted the search was not selective, but was carried out based on complaints received. The Medical Council of Thailand will also be informed of the offenses.
