The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) will perform the "Sunlight and Shadows" concert which will feature Beethoven's Symphony No.5, one of the most-loved orchestral works.
Set for Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm, the concert will take place at Mahidol University's College of Music, at the Salaya campus. Leading the TPO in this performance will be celebrated Norwegian conductor Terje Mikkelsen.
William Walton's Viola Concerto performed by African-American violist Juliet White-Smith rounds out the evening of popular favourites.
A former guest faculty member at Mahidol's College of Music, Dr White-Smith is a prominent advocate of the viola who served as president of the American Viola Society from 2008 to 2011. She earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and began her college teaching career as a visiting professor at Western Michigan University at the age of 25.
She has performed on three continents and was most recently a featured performer at the 37th International Viola Congress in South Africa. Her chamber music collaborations have brought her onstage with such luminaries as violinists Andres Cardenes and Benny Kim, pianist Gilbert Kalish, the Merling Trio and the Da Vinci Quartet.
