Tokyo - Misao Okawa, a 114-year-old Japanese, was recognized Wednesday as the world's oldest woman by Guinness World Records.
Okawa, born on March 5, 1898, received a certificate from Guinness at a nursing home in the western city of Osaka less than a week before her 115th birthday.
"I'm glad," she was quoted by the Kyodo News agency as saying.
Okawa, who has never suffered any major health problems, said the secret of longevity is to have good meals.
Okawa, the daughter of a kimono shop owner, married in 1919 and had three children, two of whom - a son and a daughter - are still alive and in their 90s, Kyodo said.
The world's oldest living person is Jiroemon Kimura, 115, a resident of Kyotango city, Kyoto. He was born April 19, 1897.//DPA
