BANGKOK, 22 January 2013 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is setting its eye on India, where they hope to boost the number of travelers to the country by no less than 10% this year.

TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing Sansern Ngaorungsi said on Monday that the TAT has decided to give further boost to the Indian market, with an aim to push tourist arrivals to 1.1 million, a 10% on-year growth, in 2013.

Mr. Sansern said that outbound Indian tourists are estimated at around 20 million this year, compared with 18 million recorded last year.

He added that the TAT is viewing family travelers, seminar attendees and incentive travelers from India as the sectors with significant potentials.

The TAT Deputy Governor went on to say that Indian film industry is also another target, after more than 90 Indian film projects have chosen Thailand as their location in the past year.

The TAT has opted for the strategy of Celebrity Marketing, to draw more famous Indian holidaymakers to the country.

In addition, the TAT has agreed to be a sponsor of the Indian Princess Pageant by inviting all contestants to Khao Yai, Phang-Nga and Bangkok during January 20-25.

Mr. Sansern stated that, when compared with other ASEAN countries, Thailand remains a very popular destination for Indian travelers. Therefore, the TAT will launch more road shows to several Indian cities during the second half of this year to expand this market further.
