Re: "Thanom's motto still top favourite", National, January 11.
"Good children are the country's future and smart children help the nation develop". Besides being the National Children's Day motto set by former PM Field Marshall Thanom Kittikachorn that children are fond of, it also is a classic motto that can be adapted for all ages.
It is to be noted that after the National Children's Day of every year, mottos are often used for reciting rather than implementing.
After January 12, how should we bring this year's slogan, "Uphold Discipline, Enhance Knowledge, and Bring Thailand Towards Asean", to be used to benefit children? It is the duty of all sectors of society, not only at school, to help find answers so that we can design interesting activities, facilitate and encourage learning to achieve these desirable characteristics.
Otherwise, it would just be a yearly motto for children to recite to get rewards.
