Somkiat Sirichatchai, a senior executive vice president of Kasikornbank, is widely seen as replacing Banthoon Lamsam as president, becoming the second president from outside the Lamsam family after Prasarn Trairatvorakul.

The appointment of the new president will be on the agenda of the board of directors' meeting today, a bank source said yesterday.

Banthoon took over as president and chief executive officer in 2010 after Prasarn resigned to move to the Bank of Thailand as its governor.

The fourth-largest bank by assets has restructured by making Ban-thoon president and assigning four senior executive vice presidents as domain coordinators for risk, resources, business and infrastructure.

A domain coordinator is tipped to be the next president because Banthoon does not want to supervise two positions.

According to the source, Krisada Lamsam, the business domain coordinator and Banthoon's nephew, is among the potential candidates for president, but he does not want to take on that responsibility.

Somkiat, 48, the resource domain coordinator, has been entrusted by Banthoon with key missions such as releasing the bank's financial results and |presiding over important signing ceremonies and events such as |the recent opening of the |bank's representative office in Myanmar.

Somkiat earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Wharton, the business school of the University of Pennsylvania.

He joined KBank in 1991.

Chongrak Rattanapian, an executive vice president, has been appointed executive chairman of Kasikorn Asset Management.
