BANGKOK, 17 January 2013 (NNT) รข€" The Royal Irrigation Department has signed a deal with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on setting up a flood prevention system around industrial estates in Ayutthaya Province.

Royal Irrigation Department Chief Lertwiroj Kowatthana has signed the agreement with JICA to appoint CTI Engineering International Co., Ltd to design and construct two sluice gates in Ayutthaya. The gates will be vital part in flood prevention plan.

Given the 2011 flood in Thailand wreaked havoc on many Japanese factories, the Japanese government has, therefore, ordered the JICA to give Thailand 1 billion baht in grant, with the purpose of constructing Kramang Canal and Hantra Canal Sluice Gates; which are to be completed in 2015.

According to Mr Lertwiroj, the two sluice gates are vital part of the flood prevention project on the east side of the Pasak River in Ayutthaya. The two canals are the waterways through which flood waters flowed into the industrial estates two years ago.
