BANGKOK, 9 January 2013 – The government is lifting its guard against criticisms of the 300-baht daily minimum wage policy, which has become effective across Thailand at the start of 2013.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, on Monday, came out to defend the current governmentâs implementation of the new daily minimum wage, which has pushed nationwide workersâ daily earnings up to at least 300 baht, since January 1st, 2013.
Earlier, Democrat Party MP for Bangkok Sansern Samalapa publicly forecast that the new daily minimum wage will soon lead a large number of SME businesses to close down and push as many as 10 million workers out of job.
The PM is urging the opposition Democrats to present its evidence to back up such pessimism and to crosscheck with the state data before continuing with its criticism.
In addition, the Premier stated that related ministers will be ready to present their cases and information on this policy, when needed.
