Dubbed the biggest game event in the country, Thailand Game Show 2013: Plus promises the "best Children's Day ever" and boost the Kingdom's potential in the Asean game market.
In the past few years, the games industry's market value has been about Bt13 billion, according to Pongsuk Hiranpruek, managing director of Show No Limit. The online gaming market alone is worth up to Bt5 billion and this year, Thailand should show a growth rate of up to 10 per cent to Bt5.5 billion.
Hosted by Nation Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Show No Limit and Game Interactive Digital Entertainment Association (GiDEA), the seventh national game fair at Bitec Bang Na kicked off yesterday and ends tomorrow.
Aside from four zones of exciting and fun activities where the country's leading game providers will exhibit their products and services, offering special prices and introductions to their latest games, it marks the event's first-ever business-matching forum.
Under the theme of "Asean Connect", it is the meeting place of game developers and game and information-technology companies across Asean. It also serves as a seminar on the outlook of the games industry in the region.
It is expected to attract at least 100,000 visitors.
The three-day show is supported by the Software Industry Promotion Agency (Public Organisation) or Sipa, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. A "MICE Digitally Yours" seminar by the TCEB will analyse the growth of the digital-entertainment market that affects the MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) industry.
"This year's edition is special," said Adisak Limprungpatanakij, NBC president and chief executive officer. "Not only do we intend to make it the most enjoyable Children's Day ever for the whole family, but we will also upgrade the event to be the top national games fair with an effort to achieve our goal of making Thailand the Asean hub for video games in the near future."
Pongsuk said the fair would be an ideal venue where the country's leading games providers exhibit their products and services and introduce their latest games.
"Our experience in holding the Thailand Game Show for six consecutive years has enabled us to see the potential of the gaming market with high growth potential. And the evolution of the game industry in Thailand can survive in the global arena."
He said he was confident that Thailand would be the leader in the regional market, thanks to its geographic strength as a hub of Asean and the full support from relevant parties.
"When the [Asean Economic Community] is effective in 2015, the number of manufacturers and consumers in the gaming market will increase by a hundred times."
At this event, hundreds of business operators are joining forces to update their latest works with highlighted activities that include Zone Zean Game, a video-game-console competition by Hi-Tech Entertainment; extreme shows; and TGS Cosplay Contest - the biggest indoor cosplay contest.
Paula Komalarajun, president of GiDEA, said the fair had transformed itself from B2C (business to consumers) into B2BC (business to business and consumers) with an additional business-matching zone.
With support from China's biggest game-show organiser ChinaJoy, trade talks will involve game vendors and digital media developers; game publishers; venture capitalists; and retail game developers.
