EC open to complaints

Anyone who finds a candidate's qualifications questionable or their policies exaggerated can file a complaint with the Election Commission, the director of the commission's Bangkok office, Weera Yiprae, said yesterday.

He said the EC would verify all candidates' qualifications within seven days after the registration process is closed on Friday.

EC-verified independent organisations will also help monitor the contest to ensure a free and fair election.

A candidate can be disqualified if he or she announces policies that are beyond the Bangkok governor's authority, he said. Also, complainants who intentionally file false allegations will be subject to a penalty, and if the person filing the complaint is a politician, his or her party may be dissolved if found guilty.
