BANGKOK, 4 January 2013 (NNT) -In light of the loss of nearly 2 million baht a month, the Airport Rail Link has canceled its 20-baht flat rate promotion, reasoning that the number of passengers did not increase much.

Operator of the Airport Rail Link, State Railway of Thailand Electrified Train (SRTET) Board Chairman Jamroon Tangpaisalkit has revealed that the 20-baht flat rate promotion, which was effective during September 30th-December 31st 2012, has not been extended. He said the number of passenger during the promotional period increased by only 5,000 per day instead of over 7,000 targeted earlier.

The operator has since January 1st been collecting regular fees of 15-45 baht, depending on the distance traveled, added the Chairman.

According to the operator, it has suffered accumulated losses of around 6 million baht after three months of the flat-rate trial. The board has assigned the company to come up with a more appropriate promotion to draw in more customers.
