Promote safe driving year round

Ref: "Road deaths down over first two days", National, December 30.

It's a good sign that the death toll and injuries in the first two days of the seven dangerous days have been reduced from last year's statistics.

But I still see the root causes remaining, such as drunk driving and speeding.

I think a safe driving campaign for just the seven dangerous days in the festival period is not enough because it cannot change drivers' habits, which still lead to huge damage both to lives and assets.

It should be promoted not only during the festival but throughout the year - how to drive in a safe manner. And the road laws should be enforced strictly to change careless drivers' behaviour and habits. Because it will bear boundless fruit not only during the celebration of the international New Year but also the Thai New Year, as well as during everyday travel on the roads.
